The leaves are starting to fall off the trees, and we’ve had a few chilly nights these past couple of weeks. Before you know it, there will be snow on the ground and you will want to turn the heat on in your home. When was the last time you checked your furnace? It should be checked annually. If you have any problems with your furnace you will want it fixed before it gets too cold out. Here’s how to get your furnace ready for the winter and detect any issues that may need maintenance:
Filter
Check the filter in your furnace. The filter needs to be changed every so often. If it is blocked, it will not work efficiently and could lead to greater issues.
Vents
Take a look around the house to see if there are any items blocking your vents. Items blocking the vents not only make the furnace work harder to heat the house, but can also be a fire hazard.
Blower Belt
Throughout the cold season, the blower belt is running vigorously to keep you warm. Eventually the belt will need to be changed. An old belt can become loose and force the furnace to work harder and faster and you don’t want to it to stop working in the middle of the winter.
