You’ve heard of propane, but do you know about all the ways you can use it to become more energy-efficient? There are several ways residential customers can use propane. Here are just a few:
- Pool/Spa/Hot Tub Heaters – These heaters come in several different sizes, and are available for both in-ground and above-ground models. Not only do propane heaters work faster than electric heaters to get the water to a perfect temperature, they generally conserve energy as well, making them much more cost-efficient.
- Clothes Dryers – Propane dryers are more efficient and less expensive to run than electric dryers. They tend to cut drying time in half because they heat up faster, and can save about half the cost of electric dryers.
- Water Heaters – Propane water heaters tend to be smaller than electric heaters, and come in more sizes, with installation and venting options. Their temperature adjustment is more precise, and they offer on-demand heat, which eliminates the need to keep water heated in the tank, saving a great percentage on a home’s annual heating costs.
- Furnaces – On average, propane heat costs half as much as heating with electricity, and the furnaces last 5-10 years longer than electric heat pumps. There is no need for a chimney with propane heating systems, as they can be vented either vertically or horizontally. Propane can also keep spaces warm and comfortable during electric power outages, which is extremely beneficial, especially for areas that are more likely to get hit with severe winter storms.
