FEDERAL TAX CREDIT

Homeowners are now eligible for a tax credit worth 30% (up to $1,500) of the cost of installation of high efficiency heating and cooling equipment. Installations must be performed between 1/1/09 and 12/31/10. The credit will be applied to the respective year’s federal taxes. This tax credit was significantly improved with the passing of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 on February 17, 2009. This credit also applies to just about any other energy efficient upgrade made to the home including roofing, insulation and windows. There are also tax credits available for fuel efficient vehicles.

HOME PERFORMANCE WITH ENERGY STAR

The second incentive is through the Home Performance with Energy Star Program. For years, Polsinello Fuels, Inc. has been promoting the Energy Star Audit, which is required to become eligible for this program’s incentives. Home Performance with Energy Star provides low interest financing or a rebate worth 10% (up to $2,000) of the cost of installation of high efficiency heating and cooling equipment. This program has existed for quite some time and still proves to be a great way to update your home. A Building Performance Institute (BPI) contractor must perform the installation to be eligible for the program. Polsinello Fuels, Inc. is a BPI certified contractor and very familiar with this program.

UTILITY COMPANY INCENTIVES

Most utility companies are offering rebates or incentives to upgrade to efficient heating equipment. Currently, National Grid and NYSEG are offering rebates for the installation of high efficiency heating and cooling equipment. These rebates can be worth up to $1,200 off the cost of installation. Again, be sure to work with a BPI contractor because there may be additional incentives available for doing so. Also, some heating oil companies are providing rebates of their own to compete with utility rebates. At Polsinello Fuels, Inc. there are rebates worth up to $300 off the installation of high efficiency oil-fired heating equipment.
