Matt Polsinello - Thursday, October 31, 2013

The night may be scary, but your heating arrangements shouldn’t be. Don’t be scared of propane. It’s safe and efficient for homeowners.

Here’s why:

  • Propane is considered a “green” source of energy

  • Using propane can lower your energy bill.

  • Propane equipment takes up less space than heating oil equipment

  • Propane can do anything from cooking your food, heating your water and heating your home

Tune Up This Fall

Matt Polsinello - Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Have you started your furnace yet? With the mild fall we have all enjoyed, many have not.

Now is the time to Tune it up. Just like a car that has sat without running, your furnace needs the same TLC. It will run better, more efficient and save you money.

Whether gas or oil your heating system should be tuned up annually to make sure it is operating safely and efficiently. An annual tune-up reduces the chances of an expensive repair bill in the winter. Preventative maintenance is now less expensive than emergency service later, and the cost of a tune-up can be offset by the improved energy efficiency during the winter. Tuned-up heating equipment can operate up to 20% more efficiently.

Lastly, annual tune-ups can extend the life expectancy of your equipment; imagine never changing the oil in your car. If you have not had your equipment tuned-up yet or have any questions please feel free to contact Polsinello Fuels, Inc. at 465-3535. We will be glad to let you know how you can improve your home’s efficiency and reduce your energy costs.

Annual Tune-Ups

Matt Polsinello - Wednesday, October 09, 2013

Having an Annual Tune-up performed on your heating equipment before the heating season is a sure way to save money! An annual Tune-up will improve the operating efficiency of your equipment, which will reduce your energy bills. Also, an annual tune-up greatly reduces the chances of an expensive emergency service call when you need your equipment working at its best. Lastly and most importantly, an annual tune-up allows a professional to examine your heating equipment and make sure everything is operating safely. During an annual tune-up a professional service technician should test the system to ensure safe and effective operation. Whether your system is fueled by oil, natural gas or propane it is recommended by most service professionals and equipment manufacturers that you take the time to have it tuned-up every year. Most service companies offer special pricing if you have your equipment serviced before the heating season. If you have any questions on the benefits or pricing of an annual tune-up please call Polsinello Fuels at 465-3535.

What Does October Mean to You?

Matt Polsinello - Wednesday, October 02, 2013

What does October mean to you? For many it means, fall foliage, Halloween, baseball playoffs, etc. For others it is the month they first turn on their heating system (with fingers crossed) and realize there is a problem. Do not let that happen to you. Call your heating contractor today and schedule an Annual Tune-up. By scheduling an Annual Tune-up now you may save yourself, time, money and aggravation later. Taking time out of your day to make an appointment is much more manageable than a costly service call in the middle of the night. Do not leave the comfort of your home to chance and “hope to get through another year.”

Remember, if you would like to spend your October enjoying the fall foliage, Halloween and baseball playoffs, now is the time to schedule a Tune-up. If you have questions about your heating system or would like to schedule a Tune-up please feel free to contact Polsinello Fuels at 465-3535.

Preparing Your Furnace For the Winter

Matt Polsinello - Wednesday, September 25, 2013

The leaves are starting to fall off the trees, and we’ve had a few chilly nights these past couple of weeks. Before you know it, there will be snow on the ground and you will want to turn the heat on in your home. When was the last time you checked your furnace? It should be checked annually. If you have any problems with your furnace you will want it fixed before it gets too cold out. Here’s how to get your furnace ready for the winter and detect any issues that may need maintenance:

Check the filter in your furnace. The filter needs to be changed every so often. If it is blocked, it will not work efficiently and could lead to greater issues.

Take a look around the house to see if there are any items blocking your vents. Items blocking the vents not only make the furnace work harder to heat the house, but can also be a fire hazard.

Blower Belt

Throughout the cold season, the blower belt is running vigorously to keep you warm. Eventually the belt will need to be changed. An old belt can become loose and force the furnace to work harder and faster and you don’t want to it to stop working in the middle of the winter.

These are simple tips to check on your furnace. If you are still unsure about how to get your furnace ready for winter, call Polsinello, the heating professionals! They can provide assessments on your furnace and give you insight on how well your furnace is functioning. Email us with any questions at for more information on furnaces.

September Energy-Saving Tips

Matt Polsinello - Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Your AC may not be blasting anymore, but it doesn’t mean you can’t save energy in other areas of your home. Here’s other ways to save energy in your residence during the month of September:

Set Timers In Your Home

The sun is starting to rise a little later each morning. Set your coffee maker to a reasonable hour so your coffee is ready when you get up, and it’s turned off by the time you go to work.

Turn Unused Lights Off

Don’t leave lights on all night. If you need guidance in the middle of the night – use nighlights, keep a flash night next to your bed, or use your cell phone to avoid bumping into anything.

Don’t Leave the Water Running

Don’t waste water. Cut back on watering your lawn and flowers. You can also save on water use in your home. For instance, turn off your faucet while you are brushing your teeth. You waste an immense amount of water leaving the faucet running.

Stay Warm on the Chilly Nights

Some nights can get chilly in September. If you are trying to avoid turning up the heat, bundle up with extra blankets and make sure you haven’t left any of your windows open from the warmer days.

Also opening your curtains during the day and closing them at night, lets the warm air in and keeps it in longer during the night.

Get a Home Energy Audit

Hire a professional to audit your home to save energy and money. Polsinello Fuels offers customers this program to homeowners who are unaware of areas in their homes that can use improvement. Give us a call today to find out more information at 518-465-3535.
