Summer is officially here! By now, most of the air conditioners in homes have been at least set up, or have been running for the last month or so. What advice do you follow to get the most out of your AC? There are several misconceptions about air conditioners and how to enhance their performance. Find out which tips you should follow:
Misconception 1: Always leave your AC running in the summer to save money
Leaving your air conditioner running when your house is empty will only put a strain on your wallet. If you plan on leaving your home, shut the air conditioner off. Use your air conditioner only when you actually need it. If your house is newer and insulated for energy efficiency, your house may actually stay cool in the heat.
Misconception 2: Turn your AC to the lowest possible temperature to cool your house faster
It doesn’t matter what temperature you set your AC on – it will still cool off your home at the same rate. If you find your AC isn’t cooling off your home check the air filter, or maybe the unit is too small for your household. Older air conditioners have a tendency to be inefficient, and maybe it’s time for an upgrade.
Misconception 3: Air conditioners are supposed to be loud
All brands of air conditioners function differently. Some air conditioners operate with a faint humming sound, which may be disturbing to those who like quiet environments. But if your air conditioner is rattling, it may need adjustments. If your AC is older and if you think there may be a bigger issue, it may be time to invest in a new one.
