Is Your Central AC Ready for Summer?

Matt Polsinello - Tuesday, March 24, 2015

It’s been several months since you’ve used your central air conditioning unit. Before you turn it on to escape the heat during the warm months, you’re going to want to make sure that everything is in working order. We found some great tips from Popular Mechanics that will help.

It’s recommended to have your HVAC system checked at least once a year to assure that it is performing to its full ability. Some routine maintenance you can do yourself, but be sure to contact a professional for the more intricate parts of the system and of course if you detect any problems.

One of the first things you can check is the filter. You’ll find these at the blower unit. A dirty filter can affect the air flow, so you’ll want to make sure it’s nice and clean to maximize how much air the unit is pumping through your home.

You’ll also want inspect the duct work. Make sure there are no leaks that would hurt your unit’s productivity. While inspecting the ducts inspect for mold growing in there. This can be a health hazard for your whole family. If you do find mold, contact a professional to make sure it is removed properly and safely.

The final step in making sure your central AC is working properly is to inspect the outside unit. Make sure the unit is unobstructed by removing any winter covering before you turn on the switch and clear any leaves or debris from around the unit as well.

You may want to contact a professional to give your HVAC system a full inspection. Contact Polsinello Fuels, a leader in heating and cooling, and ask about our spring tune up.
