Many customers like the idea of paying for their heating oil and propane during the summer months when prices are generally at their lowest. This allows customers to pay for their entire year's supply of heating oil and propane upfront, in one payment. It is important to remember that not all PREPAYs are alike. Generally, there are three types of PREPAY programs.
The first is a FIXED PREPAY. A fixed prepay locks in the price of heating oil and propane for the entire year. That means the price the customer pays for heating oil and propane when they sign up in the summer is the price for heating oil and propane throughout the year. This fixed prepay price is usually a discounted price for paying upfront.
The second type is a CAPPED PREPAY. A capped prepay limits how high the price of heating oil and propane may go throughout the year. The advantage of the capped prepay is that the price can go lower. That means if the price of heating oil and propane during the winter months is lower than the capped price, the customer gets the lower price.
The third type is a FLEX PREPAY. A flex prepay does not lock in or cap the price of heating oil and propane. The advantage of a flex prepay is a large discount off of every gallon the customer purchases. By prepaying for their heating oil and propane the customer is offered a discount of up to $0.15 per gallon. The price of heating oil and propane when enrolled in a flex prepay will follow the daily pricing but the distinct advantage is the large discount off of each gallon.
Budget programs have become an increasingly popular way to pay for heating oil and propane. Budgets allow the customer to pay for their heating oil and propane throughout the course of the year. By paying for heating oil and propane throughout the year, customers are able to take the ups and downs out of their heating bills. Monthly payments are something most homeowners and businesses are accustomed to. A budget is just another way to manage your bills and control the price of heating oil and propane.
Generally, there are two types of budget programs:
The first is a CAPPED BUDGET. A capped budget limits how high the price of v may go throughout the year while allowing the customer to pay in monthly payments. The advantage of the capped budget is that the price can go lower. That means if the price of heating oil and propane during the winter months is lower than the capped price, the customer gets the lower price. A capped budget allows the customer to pay for their heating oil and propane with convenient and affordable monthly payments.
The second type is a FLEX BUDGET. A flex budget does not lock in or cap the price of heating oil and propane. The advantage of a flex budget is a large discount off of every gallon the customer purchases. By enrolling in a flex budget, the customer is offered a discount of up to $0.10 per gallon. The price of heating oil and propane when enrolled in a flex budget will follow the daily pricing but the distinct advantage is the large discount off of each gallon. A flex budget allows the customer to pay for their heating oil and propane with convenient and affordable monthly payments.
